Children return from school to find parents dead behind locked door

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

New Delhi: A 40-year-old Delhi Police head constable posted in North district and his 35-year-old wife were found dead inside their flat in outer Delhi’s Narela Saturday. Police suspect that the policeman may have strangled his wife before ending his own life.

Police arrived after a PCR call around 1 pm regarding the incident and found the door of the house bolted from inside. Police said that when the couple’s two children, an 11-year-old son and a 13-year-old daughter, returned home from school, no one answered the door for them. However, a neighbour said that they were unaware of any domestic issues between the couple, who had been living in the area for the past 12-15 years.

Children said that the couple frequently quarrelled, police said. With the assistance of fire brigade, when they entered, they found the couple dead in the same room. The children then alerted neighbours, who then informed police. Preliminary inquiry suggested that the deceased couple had been having domestic disputes.

Police said the medical examination would also help investigators establish the cause and manner of death. The bodies were shifted to Raja Harish Chandra Hospital for post-mortem. Legal proceedings have been initiated, and further investigation is under way.
