A storm is coming,” CJP spokesperson Saurav Das on Saturday after Delhi Police detained a few protesters who had begun gathering ahead of the CJP’s Jantar Mantar 2.0 protest. A Gurgaon police officer said police had tried to persuade Rathee not to join the protest, citing prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) in Delhi and the lack of permission for the gathering. Earlier, Das had urged people to unite to protect democracy and reclaim the country ahead of the party’s Jantar Mantar 2.0 protest. He said he had received more than 300 calls and numerous WhatsApp messages within an hour.
Sources said police personnel in plain clothes detained him after he refused to heed their advice not to attend the demonstration. The officer said Rathee had continued to post on social media that he would attend the protest. NEW DELHI: “Not few. Das reposted a news agency ANI’s post on X reporting the detentions and responded with the remark, suggesting that more people could join the protest. Gurgaon Police have also placed several Congress workers and members of other political parties under house arrest. Das also alleged that Delhi Police had exposed his phone number while circulating documents related to the party’s previous protest and a letter denying permission for the proposed demonstration at Jantar Mantar.
Meanwhile, YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was reportedly detained by Gurgaon Police on Saturday morning ahead of the protest.
