New Delhi: Delhi Police traced and returned a bag containing Rs 3 lakh in cash belonging to a South African delegate attending Brics Summit , about 30 minutes before he was scheduled to board a flight home Sunday.
Around 7.10pm, information regarding the missing bag was received from the hotel staff and ACP security. At 7.45pm, the cab driver was located and the bag was recovered from the vehicle. After verification, the recovered cash was handed over to the delegate around 8.15pm,” police said in a statement.
With the delegate scheduled to leave later in the evening, an urgent search was launched.
DCP (New Delhi) Sachin Sharma said police were informed by the hotel authorities and ACP security, following which teams were formed to trace the cab and recover the bag. The cab driver was traced within a short time and the bag was found inside the vehicle, according to police. Police said the recovery was made within an hour of receiving the complaint, enabling the visitor to leave India without further inconvenience.
The delegate had visited Ambience Mall in Gurgaon and was returning to his hotel in a cab when he inadvertently left the bag inside the vehicle. He realised it was missing only after reaching the hotel and immediately alerted the staff. “The missing bag was found under a seat in the vehicle. Police reached the hotel immediately and initiated efforts to trace the cab.
