New Delhi: A head constable of Delhi Police was allegedly assaulted in northwest Delhi’s Vijay Vihar by some men Saturday. The official claimed the attackers were armed with baseball bats and fled with his phone and a gold chain.
“A few men were making a ruckus and I asked them to leave in the Vijay Vihar area, according to the constable. I was later told they belong to Nawasa gang. The victim said he was bleeding from his head after the assault, following which he was taken to Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital for treatment.
As I was returning, seven-eight men came and started to hit me without any provocation. If a police constable can be attacked, how safe can normal citizens feel? CCTV footage of the incident shows the constable being punched multiple times and dragged to the ground by three men as others stand around him. The constable allegedly got five stitches under his left eye and had a swollen jaw.
A case has been registered and one person was arrested. Further investigation is in progress to trace and apprehend the remaining accused.
