New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has identified 99 projects that need to be completed on priority. These are projects that are of high public use, such as roads, drainage, markets, EV infrastructure, healthcare and civic amenities.
The civic body is conducting weekly reviews of all major procurements and projects under the leadership of NDMC chairman Manoj Dwivedi.

On parking, Dwivedi said a proposal for an integrated smart parking system across the NDMC area was under approval. The council is also planning the redevelopment and upgradation of markets and commercial hubs, including Connaught Place, Khan Market, Sarojini Nagar, Palika Bazar, Super Bazar and Yashwant Placel. “We are now also exploring automated multi-level parking facilities at busy locations. It has 102 charging stations.
The dashboard is being monitored in weekly review meetings,” Dwivedi said. High-capacity pumps and increasing the frequency of desilting of sump wells, drains and bell mouths are among the short-term measures,” Dwivedi said. “This will include increasing the carrying capacity of drains and joining channels… so that water can move easily from over-capacity drains to those with available capacity,” the chairman added. “Feasibility studies are being conducted for more than 150 sites,” the chairman said.
“The exercise is aimed at identifying process bottlenecks, resolving delays and expediting implementation. We have also developed a dashboard where timelines specified for projects and reasons for delays have to be mentioned. Each procurement project is assessed against its pre-fixed turnaround time (TAT), current approval stage and expected timeline for award, while projects under execution are monitored against Gantt charts, which are visual project management tools that show the progress of work from one stage to the next. “We have finalised at least five projects to address recurring waterlogging. These involve short- and long-term measures. As part of the long-term plan, the council has begun a review of the existing drainage. At least five works are also in progress to capture rainwater and divert it to harvesting systems along carriageways. NDMC is also working on expanding EV charging infrastructure.
