No casualties were reported but several people were seen jumping out of the burning building to save themselves. New Delhi: A fire broke out in a restaurant kitchen in northeast Delhi’s Maujpur Tuesday.
Restaurant staff contained the blaze, which began around 10.30 pm, after which fire tenders doused the fire in 15 minutes. Several people, including women and children, could be seen jumping from the building, and people on the ground were catching them so that they would avoid injuries. A video of the incident circulating on social media shows children being heaved from the first floor of the building towards bystanders on the ground.
The restaurant was on the ground floor of a three-storey building and spread over 83 square metres. “We got a call at 10.34 pm, following which seven to eight fire tenders were sent to the spot. The fire started in the restaurant’s kitchen and we extinguished the blaze, with the help of restaurant staff, by 10.45 pm,” said a fire officer.
No injuries were reported. Further investigation is on to identify the cause of the fire.
