New Delhi: After years of wading through flooded roads every monsoon, thousands of residents of south Delhi ’s Sultanpur, Gadaipur, Jaunapur and adjoining areas may finally get relief as Delhi govt has sanctioned a modern drainage network and two pumping stations along Mandi Road and Bandh Road in Chhatarpur to tackle chronic waterlogging.
Officials said the area is naturally low-lying and rainwater earlier flowed into Haryana through a natural drainage channel. Mandi Road, which connects CDR Chowk to the Delhi-Haryana border through Jaunapur village, has remained a major waterlogging hotspot for years. However, rapid urbanisation blocked the outlet, leaving several stretches submerged in knee-deep water during monsoon. 710 metres of precast drains will be constructed on each side of Mandi Road, covering a combined length of 1,420 metres, according to officials. Another 1,920-metre drain will be built along Bandh Road. Two pumping stations will be installed to facilitate quick discharge of accumulated rainwater during heavy rainfall.
