New Delhi: The minimum temperature continued to dip in the capital, touching 15.3 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal, Tuesday, making it the coolest Oct morning in three years. In Oct 2023, the mercury had dropped to 14.3 degrees Celsius in Delhi. Meanwhile, Gurgaon woke up to a chill in the air as it saw Haryana’s lowest minimum temperature this season at 12 degrees Celsius; thunderstorms, lightning and hail are expected over the next four days.
The minimum temperature in Gurgaon fell three degrees since Monday, with the minimum temperature in the city at 16.8 degrees Celsius; the maximum temperature was 31.6 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature stood at 30 degrees Celsius. In neighbourhood parks, morning walkers, joggers and yoga enthusiasts have been stepping out after 8 am these days due to the chill.
“As north-westerly winds are prevailing in the region, it is bringing cool winds from western Himalayan region, leading to a drop in the minimum temperature,” said Krishna Mishra , scientist, India Meteorological Department (IMD). “The weather is expected to remain dry from Oct 31 onwards,” said Mishra. After a spell of rain expected Thursday and Friday, rain is unlikely from Saturday.
The minimum temperature is likely to stay between 15 and 17 degrees Celsius Wednesday, 16-18 degrees Celsius Thursday and nearly 20 degrees Celsius Saturday. However, after the influence of a western disturbance is over, the minimum temperature is likely to dip again from Nov 1. It may dip to 15 degrees Celsius by Nov 2. The maximum temperature Tuesday was at 31.5 degrees Celsius. It is likely to remain around 30 degrees Celsius Wednesday.
He added that due to the cyclone, the maximum impact is likely in eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh where heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted.
A western disturbance would impact the region Wednesday night; it is expected to cause light to moderate rain Thursday and Friday,” said Mishra. However, the minimum temperature is expected to rise over the next few days. “After very severe cyclonic storm ‘Arnab’ makes landfall Wednesday noon, easterly winds are likely to blow in the city, and minimum temperature may rise.
