New Delhi: For commuters already weaving through construction barricades across south Delhi, another traffic bottleneck could be taking shape just when the festive rush peaks. Residents of Chittaranjan Park are urging Delhi govt to hold off on starting construction of the second flyover at Savitri Cinema until the festive season is over, warning that taking up work now could turn an already busy stretch into a major choke point.
If construction starts at Savitri during Durga Puja, the congestion could stretch till Dhaula Kuan,” said society secretary PK Paul. The Chittaranjan Park Senior Citizens’ Welfare Society has written to the Delhi chief minister , noting that the area hosts more than five lakh devotees during the festive season. Thousands travel to CR Park for Durga Puja , followed by Dussehra, Lakshmi Puja, Kali Puja and Chhath Puja, bringing a sharp increase in traffic from across Delhi-NCR. The society has also warned that congestion could affect emergency movement, including ambulances and fire tenders. It has raised safety concerns for pedestrians, senior citizens, women and children as well.
