New Delhi: Nearly 47.6 lakh registered voters in Delhi are unlikely to find their names in the draft Special Intensive Revision (SIR) electoral roll to be published by Election Commission Monday, with around one-third of the capital’s 1.4 crore electors unable to submit their enumeration forms during the verification exercise.
Voters whose names are missing from the draft roll will be able to file claims and objections between Aug 31 and Sept 30. Once the details are found to be in order, the voters’ names will be included in the final SIR electoral roll, scheduled to be published on Nov 4.
Election officials said many voters were not found at their registered addresses, while others had shifted within Delhi or moved out of the city. During this period, officials will closely examine the claims, while booth-level officers (BLOs) will conduct field visits to verify them.
The draft roll is expected to contain around 97.5 lakh electors whose enumeration forms were submitted, verified and digitised during the door-to-door exercise conducted between June 30 and Aug 17, according to poll officials. Election Commission figures show that 67.2% of Delhi’s 1,45,10,299 (around 97.5 lakh) registered voters were verified. Some voters whose names appear in the roll may receive notices if their details could not be linked to the 2002 intensive revision roll or if discrepancies were detected during verification.
The remaining 47.6 lakh voters were marked “uncollectable” and categorised as ‘Absent’, ‘Shifted’, ‘Dead’, ‘Duplicate’ and ‘Others’ (ASDDO). Officials said further scrutiny would continue even after publication of the draft roll.
