Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS legislature party deputy floor leader T Harish Rao on Sunday alleged that the Congress govt had betrayed minorities by failing to fulfil its promises on welfare, scholarships and financial assistance.
Addressing a rights programme organised by Telangana Turka Kasha Welfare Association at Gajwel, Rao said Congress had promised to allocate ₹4,000 crore for minorities and made several assurances through its minority declaration. However, he claimed the govt was spending only ₹1,300 crore. Rao said the BRS govt under K Chandrasekhar Rao had increased the minority budget from around ₹300 crore before 2014 to ₹1,800 crore. He alleged that minority students had received ₹1,550 crore under the overseas scholarship scheme during the BRS govt’s 10-year tenure, while the Congress govt had provided only ₹14 crore in three years.
Rao said the BRS govt had constructed Shadikhana buildings and introduced welfare measures without discrimination among communities.
Rao also criticised the Congress govt over irrigation and compensation to Mallanna Sagar oustees, alleging that pending dues had not been cleared.
