Four women were killed and 15 others injured when a private bus carrying around 52 people overturned on the Ananthagiri ghat road in Vikarabad district on Saturday.

Police said the bus, carrying around 50 passengers, lost control and overturned on the ghat road. Many passengers sustained injuries, with at least one person reported to be in a critical condition. Police have launched a search for him and are probing the cause of the accident.

“We are taking steps to shift those who suffered serious injuries to super-speciality hospitals,” the SP said. The passengers, residents of Kesaram village in Patancheru mandal of Sangareddy district, were travelling to Chintakunta village in Dharur mandal to attend the funeral of a relative, when the accident occurred. The impact left many passengers trapped inside the overturned vehicle. Local residents rushed to the spot on hearing cries for help and joined rescue efforts before police and emergency teams arrived. The injured were later shifted to the Vikarabad govt hospital in ambulances. The driver, identified as Kumar, reportedly fled the scene soon after the accident. Vikarabad district superintendent of police Sneha Mehra instructed officials to ensure immediate medical care for the injured and regulate traffic on the busy ghat road.
