Liquor worth ₹1cr destroyed in fire at Rangareddy wine shop

Hyderabad : Liquor worth around ₹1 crore was destroyed when a major fire broke out at a liquor shop in Kandukur, Rangareddy district, on Saturday morning. Initial estimates put the loss at around ₹1 crore, with refrigerators, tables, hundreds of liquor bottles, electrical equipment and other fixtures destroyed. Around ₹2,000 in cash was also burnt in the fire.

The shop was closed when people outside noticed the flames,” he said. Sources said the shop did not have fire insurance, leaving the owners worried about bearing the entire loss. “The incident highlights the fire-safety risks in commercial outlets that store large quantities of combustible goods,” a senior fire official said.

The blaze erupted suddenly at Jai Bhavani Wines, and owing to the large stock of liquor stored at the outlet, the flames spread rapidly and gutted the outlet. “We are investigating the incident, but prima facie, it appears that a short circuit in the shop’s electrical panel may have triggered the fire. The owner also suspects the same. The establishment is reportedly not under single ownership, adding to concerns over compensation and recovery.

Fire personnel rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at around 7.20 am and brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.

Station fire officer (SFO) G Nagarjuna said the exact cause of the fire was yet to be established.
