Hyderabad: With the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar graduate MLC constituency eluding Congress for the past two decades, the ruling party is now working out all strategies to win the seat as a victory will be crucial for it ahead of elections to Greater Hyderabad, Malkajgiri and Cyberabad municipal corporations and the Khairatabad bypoll.
The terms of both the MLC seats are set to expire in March 2027 and the election authorities have announced registration of voters for the two constituencies. Likewise, elections are also due to Khammam and Warangal municipal corporations and many wards and divisions of the two civic bodies fall within the Nalgonda-Khammam-Warangal graduate MLC constituency. Congress has announced Sama Rammohan Reddy as its candidate for the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar graduate MLC seat, and Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy for the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda graduate MLC constituency. BRS, BJP and independents have won the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar seat in the last two decades.
Sources said chief minister A Revanth Reddy has told the party leaders and ministers to take the elections seriously and win both the graduate MLC seats. He is likely to hold another meeting with ministers, MPs, MLCs and other important leaders to discuss the roadmap to win the elections to both the graduate MLC seats. Presently, the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar seat is held by BRS’ Surabhi Vani Devi, daughter of former prime minister the late PV Narasimnha Rao, while the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda MLC seat is represented by Teenmar Mallanna, who was suspended from Congress. EC is likely to announce the poll schedule after completion of voter registration. Winning the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar graduate MLC constituency is crucial for the ruling Congress as many wards of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Malkajgiri and Cyberabad Municipal Corporations fall within this graduate MLC constituency. BJP and BRS are yet to finalise their candidates for the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar graduate MLC constituency with sources stating that both the opposition parties are planning to go all out to win the seat to send a clear message to the ruling Congress ahead of civic polls in the CURE area.
