The CM expressed satisfaction with the performance of the commission, according to the CMO. The commission made several key recommendations to the state govt in its report, including the re-establishment of a dedicated minor irrigation system equipped with technical units aimed at improving water-use efficiency. It also recommended introducing command area-based management systems to integrate minor and major irrigation resources. The commission urged the govt to immediately identify the full tank level (FTL) boundaries of tanks, remove encroachments and take measures to protect the water bodies. It stated that the restoration of tanks was essential for ensuring water security, stabilising agriculture and improving rural livelihoods in Telangana . During the meeting, the CM advised the commission to focus on promoting crop diversification, increasing horticultural cultivation and strengthening farmer producer organisations (FPOs). The commission members also briefed the CM on the programmes undertaken by it over the past two years and the various recommendations submitted to the govt during the period. Download the TOI App.
