Hyderabad: Tracing an alleged ₹81.4 crore money trail in the Andhra Pradesh liquor transportation scam, the Enforcement Directorate has detailed how funds were allegedly spent on luxury watches, SUVs, land deals, political activities and other personal expenses linked to former minister’s son Karumuri Sunil Kumar and his associates.
The proceeds were allegedly routed through Sree Sudarsana Constructions, a subcontractor that received ₹68.28 crore from Sigma Supply Chain Solutions Pvt Ltd between Nov 2021 and Oct 2023, according to the ED. ₹52 lakh was allegedly transferred towards the proposed purchase of K Trimurthy Mines in Anakapalle, according to the ED. Sudarsana Constructions reportedly received ₹68.28 crore from Sigma, of which ₹11.95 crore was transferred to family members and relatives of Sunil Kumar, ₹4.67 crore was paid to third parties, and ₹7.54 crore was withdrawn in cash and allegedly delivered to employees or associates of TEKRR Technologies, a syndicate-linked logistics front company, according to the ED.
The ED’s complaint states that the same pool of money was used for payments to an astrologer, a personal assistant and persons associated with political activities. It also alleges that funds were spent on cricket kits distributed in the constituency of Sunil Kumar’s father, former civil supplies minister Karumuri Venkata Nageswara Rao, apart from college fees paid for a relative. The alleged money trail also extended to proposed mining and land transactions.
The ED, which recently filed a prosecution complaint under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) before the metropolitan sessions judge-cum-special PMLA court, Nampally, has outlined a trail of assets and expenditures that it alleges were funded through proceeds generated from inflated liquor transportation charges in Andhra Pradesh.
