An investigation is underway
Kolkata: Kolkata Police headquarters at Lalbazar has suspended two Kolkata Police personnel and relieved a civic volunteer for allegedly extorting money from commercial goods vehicles in Bhangar. The disciplinary action was taken against sergeant Nurul Islam Molla and constable Shibnanda Thakur of the Bhangar Traffic Police Guard, while civic volunteer Ali Hasan Molla was relieved of his duties. Departmental proceedings have officially been initiated against both suspended police officers to determine the extent of their misconduct and whether other personnel were involved in the operation. Strict disciplinary and legal consequences will follow the completion of the formal departmental inquiry. The anti-corruption branch of state govt had already arrested two cops in the past month, including a cop from Jhargram Police, for accepting bribe from truckers.
Upon receiving the report forwarded from senior govt officials, Lalbazar launched an investigation. The inquiry confirmed the involvement of the three individuals, establishing that they had been misusing their authority to collect money from drivers passing through the area.
