Kolkata: A young aspiring actor from Bansdroni was defrauded of around Rs 2.1 lakh by cybercriminals who used an AI-generated voice clone of a prominent Bengali film director and forged documents from a leading production house. The incident unfolded after the victim responded to a fake casting call advertisement posted on social media under the name of a high-profile film producer. The post called for fresh talent for upcoming feature projects. After submitting his photographs, the victim was directed to contact a phone number, allegedly belonging to a famous director. Upon calling the number, the victim interacted with an individual whose voice was similar to the filmmaker. Over a series of WhatsApp calls , the impersonator offered the victim a role in a big-budget historical period film.
