Jammu : Around 33 tourists from Bengal, including five minors, were injured when a sleeper bus overturned near Maroog on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) in Ramban district on Thursday.
The bus had a seating capacity of 58 and was carrying 55 passengers at the time of the accident, according to traffic police. Police, SDRF, CRPF, Army personnel and Civil QRT Ramban volunteers took part in the rescue effort and managed traffic, officials said. Following the mishap, a single carriageway was opened through the affected tunnel to facilitate traffic. Police have begun an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident. The bus was travelling from Srinagar to Jammu when the accident occurred, officials said. The injured were taken to Ramban district hospital for treatment. Nine were later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
