Kolkata: An Army jawan was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly helping two Bangladeshi nationals enter India illegally through the international border at Swarupnagar in North 24 Parganas. The two Bangladeshis, identified as Joy and Baishakhi Barui, have also been arrested.
The jawan has been identified as Gautam Adhikari . A resident of Hooghly’s Magra, Adhikari is posted in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur. On leave, he was picked up from his Hooghly home.
As Joy and Baishakhi tried to cross the barbed-wire fence along the Bithari-Hakimpur border on Monday night, they were spotted by BSF personnel and detained, according to police sources.
The three have been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
