Beliaghata Police Station registered the case on Sept 27 based on a Zero FIR transferred from Narkeldanga Police Station. The incident unfolded around 10.30am as Ghosh travelled toward Beliaghata, according to the complaint. Police have invoked multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, including wrongful restraint, voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons, mischief causing major property damage, criminal intimidation, and kidnapping, along with Sections 25/27 of the Arms Act.
The FIR clearly names the accused, one of whom carries a political identity,” Ghosh said at Narkeldanga Police Station, where he first reported the case, though the investigating officer is from Beleghata Police Station.
Police, however, said the sections included in the FIR cover only kidnapping. No arrests have been made. “I have repeatedly asked the police to take action. Though an FIR has been registered, no one has been arrested yet. Ghosh claimed the FIR mentions “a kidnapping attempt with intent to murder. The complaint names local BJP functionary Mohit Sarkar (alias Tarak) and associates identified as Kuti, Bapi, Mangal, Blacky, Sunny, Ketu, Sourav Das, Dilwar, and several unnamed co-conspirators.
Kolkata: Kolkata Police on Thursday recorded the statement of Beliaghata MLA Kunal Ghosh regarding the attack on him near Phoolbagan Crossing on Narkeldanga Main Road last Sunday.
