Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the deaths of a 49-year-old Trinamool Youth Congress functionary and his 70-year-old father, whose bodies were recovered from their home in Ashoknagar, North 24 Parganas, on Saturday morning. Sanjay and Kamal lived in ward 13 of Ashoknagar-Kalyangarh municipality. Sanjay was also known locally as a Trinamool neta and was close to former MLA and North 24 Parganas zilla parishad sabhadhipati Narayan Goswami.
“Sanjay was also associated with an import-export business and was under mental stress due to a downturn in his business.
Kamal was rushed to Ashoknagar State General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” a senior officer of Barasat District police said. Sources said he had worked for Goswami during the recent assembly elections. He had recently fallen into financial debt,” a neighbour said.
The deceased were identified as Sanjay Routh and his father Kamal. “Sanjay’s body was found hanging inside a room, while his father was found unconscious in the same room. He was unmarried.
We are also waiting for the autopsy reports,” an officer of Ashoknagar police station said. “Two separate unnatural death cases have been initiated.
