Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday refused an urgent SIR hearing, sought by a Bengal Police cop.
Justice Rao allowed urgent hearing for the Army aspirant, who needed a domicile certificate for the second phase of recruitment, slated for Sept 15 in Odisha. Apart from the Bengal Police cop, an Indian Army aspirant and a nursing aspirant sought hearing. The certificate could not be issued to him as his name was missing from the electoral roll.
The cop’s lawyer submitted that her parents and other family members were on the 2002 as well as 2026 SIR lists.
She sought an urgent hearing, citing “unable to complete department work” as a reason. Many said they could not procure their caste certificates as their names were excluded from the electoral list. But the cop’s name was deleted after SIR apparently owing to a mismatch in her surname, which she changed after her wedding. Justice Rao’s bench has been flooded with SIR matters, with many seeking urgent hearing.
