The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Kolkata: The death of a woman at her marital home on Oct 22 has prompted cops to start a probe under legal provisions related to dowry harassment, domestic violence and unnatural death. Chaitali Das was found hanging in the house on Gagan Sarkar Road around 8.45 am. Her family was informed, and she was later declared dead.

The probe began after her mother filed a written complaint, alleging that since her wedding on May 10, 2024, Chaitali had been physically and mentally tortured by her husband, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and two close associates of her husband.

Police said the couple had had frequent disputes and the victim had allegedly complained of assault earlier as well.
