The state cabinet on Monday approved the bill to provide a statutory framework for inter-university transfers of teaching and non-teaching employees, which will be tabled during a special session of the assembly on Sept 10. “The West Bengal Universities and Colleges Administration and Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, seeking to facilitate inter-university transfer of both teaching and non-teaching staff, will be introduced in the assembly special session on Sept 10 from 11 am to 1 pm for consideration. The bill will be sent to the governor for approval as per procedure before being introduced in the assembly, he added.
The proposal for the session has already been sent to the Speaker,” CM said after chairing the cabinet meeting at Nabanna. Calcutta University Teachers’ Association (CUTA) president Sanatan Chottopadhyay said the govt should hold detailed consultations with stakeholders of each university before the bill is placed in the assembly. Jadavpur University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) president Partha Pratim Ray said inter-university transfer was not applicable under the existing service conditions governed by the Jadavpur University Act. “However, in this case, it needs to be clarified how the service conditions will be changed,” Ray said.
Kolkata: The state would bring in a bill that would allow inter-university transfer of professors, CM Suvendu Adhikari said on Monday.
