The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Kolkata: Trinamool MP from Dum Dum Saugata Roy has written to Union home minister Amit Shah seeking adequate security for safe discharge of his parliamentary responsibilities.

This comes after Roy was allegedly attacked by around 50 people at the encouragement of two BJP MLAs Arijit Bakshi and Sourav Sikdar on Aug 18.

Roy said the attack took place while he was on his way to a meeting of the airport advisory committee, of which he is chairperson. “The unruly group surrounded my vehicle, shouted abusive slogans and attempted to physically attack me…I narrowly escaped the assault and despite the circumstances, proceeded to attend the meeting,” Roy wrote in his letter. He further alleged that the same group attempted to attack him a second time while he was on his way back to the meeting but their efforts were thwarted by local cops.
