Midnapore: CID on Tuesday took Trinamool national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee ’s personal secretary Sumit Roy to his 119 Kalighat Road residence for searches linked to the Salboni land scam case and seized his phone. The three arrested individuals will be produced in court alongside Roy on Sept 19. Roy told cops, sources said, that he had left the phone at home with his wife. Assistant public prosecutor Syed Nazim Habib said, “The court granted four days of police custody, though we had sought eight days. Following Roy’s arrest five days ago, police could not find on him the phone he regularly used prior to arrest. Download the TOI App.
Following an extensive search of the house on Tuesday, officers recovered the phone and Roy was taken back to Bhabani Bhawan.
The court remanded the accused – Amit Ghosh, Nitya Roy and Lakshmikanta Bhuiya – in four days of police custody. Meanwhile, CID produced three alleged associates of Roy before the Midnapore CJM’s Court on Tuesday.
