RSS journal criticises JU, calls for relocation of depts to stop: The wider industry impact

The battle over the Jadavpur University walls continued on Saturday as Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), JU unit, wrote slogans such as “Free PoK”, “Free Aksai Chin”, “Akhand Bharat”, “Make JU nationalist again”, on the campus walls. This comes a day after another right-wing students’ body – Nationalist Students’ Front -made their debut on the campus walls.

The article also recounted the formation of the National Council of Education in 1906 and Arabinda was nominated the first principal of the Bengal National College under the National Council. The Swastika article has also referred to how the then Union Minister Babul Supriyo was heckled while trying to attend an ABVP programme in 2019.

A few days ago, Jadavpur MLA Sarbari Mukherjee said she would collect signatures on a mass petition to rename the university after Rishi Aurobindo. Referring to recent developments of clashes between Left student organisations and ABVP, the article said the time has come to “change Jadavpur University”. The leftist forces will have to be wiped off completely now,” said the article.

“The anti-national graffiti on the walls are already being erased.

It has also mentioned about popular student movements like ‘Hok Kolorob’ and crackdown by the state police in 2014. The protests erupted after the JU administration allegedly mishandled a complaint regarding a molestation case on campus in Aug 2014. Student demonstrations faced a brutal midnight police crackdown in Sept 2014, which injured numerous students and galvanised public outrage.

Kolkata: Days after BJP ’s Rajya Sabha MP Rahul Sinha called upon the govt to erase “Maoists and Naxals” from Jadavpur University, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh ’s publication, ‘Swastika’, has severely criticised the recent developments at JU and claimed that several departments need to be relocated to different areas to stop ‘jihadi’ forces.
