Protest on the campus a day after the violence
The most recent 23rd batch for the film wing has a capacity of 72 students, though only 65 have joined in end-Aug. Meanwhile, the EDM wing’s 9th batch—which too joined then —has a capacity of 42 students. An earlier batch, comprising the 22nd film batch and the 8th EDM batch, joined in Dec 2025.
Kolkata: At least 70 first-year students of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, who have not received hostel accommodation on campus, could not return to their paying guest lodgings or messes on Sunday night due to fear of attacks.

Those living in rented spaces outside the campus face constant fear of assault by local hoodlums, many of whom reportedly joined external stone-pelters on Sunday evening. Freshers who stayed off campus on Sunday and are currently living in rented accommodations have been advised to remain indoors and avoid any potential altercations.
