West Midnapore: The officer in charge of Chandrakona police station, Purushottam Pandey, has been closed to the police lines following the death of 20-year-old Rahul Ruidas in cop custody.

On Sept 10, Ruidas was arrested alongside two others on charges of assembling for a robbery. Ruidas was found hanging in the bathroom of the police station on Sept 13, according to police.
Sultana said sub-inspector Pratyay Das, who has previously served as the OC of the Special Operations Group, will take charge of the police station. He was remanded to four days’ police custody. He was taken to hospital and died later that night.
The victim’s father, Bifal Ruidas, filed a complaint at Ghatal sub-divisional court alleging that his son had been murdered in custody, demanding a comprehensive investigation. Following court directions, an autopsy was conducted on Tuesday.
