Tripura chief minister Manik Saha reiterated his govt’s push to improve air connectivity

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Agartala : Tripura chief minister Manik Saha reiterated his govt’s push to improve air connectivity, flagging concerns over flight withdrawals that have hit links with major destinations.

Saha said efforts are underway with the Centre to restart Kailashahar airport in Unakoti district under the UDAN scheme , a key move after 35 years of inactivity. He said a functional Kailashahar could boost intra-state travel and strengthen national security due to its proximity to the Bangladesh border and importance for South Assam. Kailashahar and Kamalpur airports have long remained non-operational, and the state seeks their revival. Nine flights have been withdrawn from the Agartala route, affecting connectivity to Guwahati, Bagdogra, Imphal, Silchar, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Kolkata, triggering higher fares, fewer options and added difficulties for travellers. The state has repeatedly urged the ministry of civil aviation to increase flights, restore services and cap fares, but despite assurances, no change has followed.
