Navi Mumbai: In a hit-and-run incident, two youths on a bike were killed by an unidentified speeding vehicle while they were going to work in the night shift at a company in the electronic zone in Mahape MIDC area on Aug 25 around 10 pm.
PSI Rajendra Chitte of Turbhe said, “The deceased youths were identified as Sachin Mahadev Gaikwad (27) and Rohit Vilas Babar (23), both residents of Thane. As per daily routine, they together went to work at the company and had left from Thane around 9 pm. After their bike was hit by an unidentified vehicle, the bike came under the wheels of the accused’s vehicle and both of the youths were dragged for about 15-20 metres that caused them grievous injuries.
Acting on a complaint by Suraj Gaikwad (32), the cousin of deceased Sachin Gaikwad, an FIR was registered by invoking BNS sections for the offence of causing death of other persons by a rash or negligent act that does not amount to culpable homicide, rash driving on a public way, act endangering life or personal safety of others along with Motor Vehicle Act sections for driving dangerously and duty of driver in case of accident and injury to a person. ” Chitte added, “The accident occurred at a road junction near Nelco company in the electronic zone of Mahape MIDC area. Gaikwad was riding the bike with Rohit Babar riding pillion. At the accident spot, there is no CCTV camera surveillance. However, we have scanned the footages of CCTV cameras at the other locations along stretch of road and have zeroed in on four dumper vehicles that had plied along the road when the fatal accident occurred. Subsequently, the dumper drivers will be summoned for inquiry to ascertain who had caused the fatal accident for enabling to name the accused driver in the chargesheet to be submitted in the court for trial.”
