Navi Mumbai: In a hit-and-run incident on the Thane-Belapur road, a police constable and a woman assistant sub-inspector (ASI) riding on a bike while doing patrolling duty on the seventh day of Ganpati immersion were injured after their bike was rammed in the rear by a speeding MUV upon reaching opposite Digha pond on the Belapur lane on Monday around 12.20 am.
The injured officers are constable Umesh Patil (41), who was riding his personal bike, and the pillion rider ASI Rashmin Magar.
Devidas Kathale, senior inspector of Rabale MIDC, said, “As the accused MUV driver’s wife’s delivery is due in some days, he will be later summoned to the police station and served with a notice under the provision of Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita. As the bike skidded on the road after being rammed by the MUV, constable Patil sustained injuries to his left leg, and ASI Magar sustained bruises to her left elbow, shoulder and left leg. Acting on a complaint by the injured constable Patil, the Rabale MIDC police have registered an FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Motor Vehicle Act sections against the MUV driver, who was traced by the police to his Ghansoli residence.
