Hubballi: Raita Sena Karnataka state president Veeresh Sabaradmath has demanded that a meeting of all 82 elected HDMC members be convened within 10 days to discuss the pending clearances required to use water from the Mahadayi River for drinking in Hubballi-Dharwad.
He warned that farmers from 11 taluks in the Malaprabha command area would launch an indefinite round-the-clock protest outside the HDMC office if the meeting was not held. Sabaradmath said the Mahadayi Water Disputes Tribunal had allocated Karnataka 13.42 TMC ft of water in 2018, but permissions to draw it for drinking purposes were still pending. Addressing a press conference, he urged the HDMC council to pass a resolution backing the Mahadayi project and press the Centre and state govt to secure environmental and operational permissions. He also sought representation for farmers at the meeting. he demanded transparency in water usage, industrial agreements and tax collections While supporting drinking water supply to Hubballi-Dharwad.
