In addition, eight KSRP platoons and 14 CAR platoons have been assigned for security duty. Police, in coordination with HDMC, have installed 400 CCTV cameras at strategic and sensitive points along procession routes. Officials have identified 60 procession routes and arranged traffic diversions and parking facilities to facilitate smooth movement during the immersion. The department has also deployed 150 hand-held metal detectors to screen suspicious individuals and monitor the movement of drunkards.
Police Commissioner Bhushan G Borase told TOI that ensuring devotees’ safety and preventing any untoward incidents are the department’s top priorities. Hubballi: The police department has put in place elaborate security arrangements to ensure peaceful Ganesh immersion processions in Hubballi-Dharwad on the ninth and 12th days of the festival. With a large number of idols set for immersion and thousands of devotees expected to participate, police have intensified security and crowd-management measures across the twin cities. Personnel from across the commissionerate, including DCPs, ACPs and inspectors, will be deployed at key locations. Police personnel on duty will wear reflective jackets and shoulder blinkers during night hours to make them easily identifiable to devotees seeking assistance. Public address systems have been installed along major routes to regulate crowds and issue instructions.
The ninth-day immersion will be held on Tuesday and the 12th-day immersion on Friday.
