Belagavi : Various Kannada organisations in Belagavi have warned of protests if the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) delays adopting a resolution declaring the city an integral part of Karnataka, as directed by the state govt.
They said issues relating to Karnataka’s identity, language and territorial integrity should not be taken lightly. At a meeting held at the Circuit House on Friday, representatives expressed concern over alleged attempts to delay implementation of the directive.
Speakers recalled that Belagavi South MLA Abhay Patil had assured Kannada organisations on June 22 that the resolution would be adopted once the govt issued its directive. Stay updated with the latest Hubballi news.
The leaders said Kannadigas across the state welcomed the govt’s decision and expected the corporation to pass the resolution without delay. They also opposed using technical objections to postpone its approval. The organisations decided to launch a campaign involving community and social leaders and meet the mayor and deputy mayor from Saturday. They also plan to seek support from religious leaders, including Naganur Rudrakshi Math. Participants demanded that the resolution be passed at the next corporation meeting and resolved to continue their campaign until it is adopted. Download the TOI App.
