Mangaluru: As many as 1,50,153 voters in Dakshina Kannada have been placed under the categories of ‘No Mapping’ and ‘Logical Discrepancies’ during the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, and notices will be issued to them, deputy commissioner Darshan HV said Monday.

The draft electoral roll published on Aug 24 contains 16,46,387 voters in the district, including 8,07,600 men, 8,38,768 women and 19 transgender electors. This is against the earlier total of 18,03,766 electors recorded on June 16. These include 82,988 (4.6%) voters who had permanently shifted, 45,318 (2.5%) deceased, 15,395 (0.8%) already enrolled, 11,124 (0.6%) absent or uncollectable voters, and 2,554 (0.1%) cases classified under other categories. The rationalisation of polling stations has increased their number in the district from 1,876 to 2,019, with 143 new stations created in areas having more than 1,200 voters. The constituency-wise addition of polling stations includes Belthangady (27), Moodubidire (26), Mangaluru City North (13), Mangaluru City South (11), Mangaluru (25), Bantwal (12), Puttur (24) and Sullia (5).

The DC said notices issued in Kannada and English by electoral registration officers (EROs) or assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) will mention the date, time, the list of documents required to be produced, and the venue of the hearing. He said booth-level officers (BLOs) will serve the notices at voters’ residences. The proposal has been sent to the Election Commission for approval. The EROs and AEROs will conduct document verification at voter facilitation centres for those who receive notices.
