Police probe
The team will be headed by the deputy inspector general of police, CTRS, Bengaluru, as its chairperson. It will include a superintendent of police from CID (nominated by DGP, CID), a deputy superintendent of police and three police inspectors nominated by the director general and inspector general of police (DG&IGP). The SIT will have the status of a police station with jurisdiction across Karnataka . Its investigating officers have also been authorised to submit final reports to the jurisdictional courts. It will function under the supervision of additional director general of police (law and order), and submit periodic progress reports to DG&IGP. All complaints related to fraudulent insurance claims received by police will be transferred to the SIT for investigation.
Bengaluru: Home minister Priyank Kharge Wednesday announced the setting up of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe fraudulent claims made against insurance companies. Formed following Supreme Court directions, the SIT will register and investigate complaints received from insurance companies and ensure speedy completion of inquiries.
