Nikhil Kumaraswamy visits a farmer’s coconut plantation at KR Halli in Hiriyur taluk
He said former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and Union minister HD Kumaraswamy remained committed to securing the Rs 5,300 crore announced by Centre for Bhadra Upper Project. Nikhil questioned govt’s claim of filling Gonur Lake with 3 tmcft of water, alleging it was made for electoral gains, and demanded that other lakes in the taluk also be filled.
He said the march was intended to express solidarity with farmers, not secure political gains, and urged people to question govt policies.
Chitradurga : JD(S) youth wing state president Nikhil Kumaraswamy on Saturday alleged that Congress govt had failed to address farmers’ problems and criticised its decision to provide only Rs 2,500 as relief. He claimed more than 3,500 farmers had died by suicide in the past three-and-a-half years.
Addressing a gathering after leading ‘Raitha Swabhimani Yatra’ from Ranjitha Hotel Circle to the taluk office in Hiriyur, Nikhil said inadequate monsoon rainfall had left farmers distressed.
