Hubballi: Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) welcomed the govt’s move to declare 101 taluks drought-hit, 89 severely drought-hit, and 12 moderately drought-hit in the first phase. However, it urged the govt to add more taluks to the list, considering the rain deficit, crop conditions, and the status of water resources in these places.

“Several taluks in Dharwad district have received less rainfall than normal, adversely affecting agricultural activities and crops,” it added. In a release, KCCI noted that omitting Dharwad and Gadag districts from the drought-hit list had caused dissatisfaction among farmers and people there. KCCI president GK Adapagaudar appealed to chief minister DK Shivakumar and deputy CM G Parameshwara to scientifically and realistically review the list of drought-hit taluks and add Dharwad and Gadag districts, along with the eligible taluks of other major districts. KCCI also appealed to the govt to immediately provide drought relief, crop-loss compensation and other necessary assistance to farmers without delay.
