Mandya: A surprise inspection by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority and Mandya District Legal Services Authority at MIMS Hospital on Monday found alleged violations in treatment and custody arrangements of an undertrial accused.
The team found Mahamad Hussain, ADLR survey supervisor, who is in judicial custody, undergoing treatment in a separate room at MIMS Hospital since Aug 21 without court permission. Hussain was arrested by Lokayukta police on July 2 on charges of impersonation, manipulation of official records and creation of forged govt documents, officials said. A person was also found in the room, a release from the information department said. MIMS superintendent Dr Shivakumar reportedly told the inspection team that Hussain did not have any serious medical condition. The jail superintendent, however, said Hussain had been admitted on the advice of prison medical officer.
The inspection was conducted by Karnataka State Legal Services Authority member secretary Shashidhara Shetty, Mandya District Sessions Judge and District Legal Services Authority president Chandrashekara C., State Legal Services Authority member Dr Mohan Rao Nalwade, and District Legal Services Authority member secretary Anand M. The authorities instructed the jail superintendent that henceforth an accused or undertrial should be sent to the hospital only after permission from the court. Download the TOI App.
The inspection team directed the jail superintendent, police officials and MIMS authorities to submit a detailed report. Further legal action will be considered after examining the report, it noted.
