Ballari : The district is set to get a major boost to its sports infrastructure, with grants of Rs 75 crore to Rs 100 crore expected under KMERC and additional facilities planned through District Mineral Foundation (DMF) funds, deputy commissioner K Nagendra Prasad said on Tuesday.
Inaugurating the district-level Dasara sports meet and CM Cup 2026 at the district stadium, he said the hockey stadium and sports hostel shifted from Bengaluru to Ballari were a matter of pride and had already been provided basic infrastructure. A DMF-funded stadium has been built in Siruguppa, while indoor stadiums worth Rs 7 crore are under construction in Kampli and Kurugodu through KKRDB. KMERC-funded projects worth Rs 51 crore are also under way in Ballari, Siruguppa and Sandur.
Youth empowerment and sports department assistant director Raju Talwar said the focus was on identifying talent in rural and urban areas and providing training opportunities. He said indoor and outdoor stadiums had been developed across the district. Renovation of the BDA football stadium will also be taken up.
