Haveri: Haveri District Congress Committee president Sanjeev Kumar Neeralagi on Tuesday alleged that the Election Commission (EC) had deleted 1.1 lakh voters from the electoral rolls in Haveri district, targeting Dalits, minorities and other disadvantaged sections.
He said the Congress would take out a march on Wednesday and garland the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar as part of its campaign to “save democracy”.
Referring to ward 31, he alleged that BJP leaders had submitted Form 7 applications seeking the deletion of minority voters from the electoral list. KPCC Graduate Cell state president Nataraj Gouda, speaking about the MLC election, said the West Graduates’ Constituency has 92,000 voters and urged graduates to support the Congress candidate. He said the Congress govt had benefited 3.8 lakh youth through the Yuva Nidhi scheme and introduced programmes for education, employment and skill development, benefiting nearly five crore people across Karnataka.
Addressing a press conference in Haveri, Neeralagi said party workers had recently staged a protest in front of the DC’s office against the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, following directions from AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge . “Kindly bless our candidate, Mohan Limbikai, in the West Graduates’ Constituency Council election,” he appealed. Neeralagi alleged that the Chief Election Commissioner was acting under the influence of Union home minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi , and demanded that Gyanesh Kumar resign from the post. He claimed that eligible voters, particularly Congress supporters, were being removed from the rolls.
