Bengaluru: A narrow escape from a road accident turned into a terrifying ordeal for a 30-year-old woman in Banashankari when a scooter-borne man, whom she had confronted for driving on the wrong side, allegedly chased her to friend’s apartment and launched a vicious attack. He allegedly hit her with a hard object and an empty paint bucket, targeting her head, shoulder, arms and face, while hurling obscene and derogatory abuses.
A research scholar and resident of Banashankari 3rd Stage, the incident occurred at 10am on Oct 30, according to the complaint filed by Meena (name changed). The commotion eventually drew the attention of residents and Meena’s friend, who rushed to the spot around 10.15am and questioned the man about his actions. Traumatised by the incident, Meena sought medical treatment and filed a complaint on Nov 3.
She told him not to come near her and rushed inside the apartment. She had gone for a workout at a gym and was riding her scooter towards her friend’s apartment when the incident unfolded. On the way, a man riding a scooter with a woman as pillion allegedly approached at high speed from the wrong direction and nearly rammed into her vehicle. Meena narrowly avoided the collision and questioned him over his reckless driving. After the argument, Meena continued towards her friend’s apartment. However, the man allegedly followed her. Even after she reached the apartment and parked her scooter outside, he approached her and assaulted her. Carrying a bag containing an object, he followed her inside. He attacked her several times on the head, shoulder, arm and forearm, leaving her injured. Even as the man’s wife reportedly tried to restrain him, he picked up an empty paint bucket and struck Meena on the face and neck. He then stopped the attack and left the apartment complex.
Channammanakere Achukattu police registered a case under Sections 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace).
