The Blue Line is now expected to be fully operational by March 2028, a three-month delay from BMRCL’s earlier target of commissioning the entire corridor by December 2027.

Commercial operations on the corridor are expected to begin by mid-2027, while trial runs on KR Pura–Iblur are expected by October and those between Iblur and Central Silk Board by December 2026. The Hebbal–KIA section is targeted to open by September 2027. The remaining KR Pura–Hebbal section, including Nagawara, is expected to be completed between December 2027 and March 2028. BMRCL is preparing to open the 7.5km elevated stretch between Kalena Agrahara and Tavarekere by September. Substantial work remains on the 13km underground section between Dairy Circle and Nagawara, which was earlier targeted to open by March 2027.

Namma Metro’s 58km Blue Line, connecting Central Silk Board with Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), is expected to open in phases, Bengaluru development minister Krishna Byre Gowda said Saturday. Gowda said he has directed BMRCL officials to speed up system works and begin trial runs from the Jayadeva side. Works on the Central Silk Board–KR Pura stretch are at an advanced stage. Integrating the Blue Line with the proposed Orange Line between JP Nagar and Kempapura is among the key challenges. BMRCL is constructing an elevated corridor capable of accommodating four tracks between Hebbal and Kempapura, including a specialised three-pier portal structure along a 1km stretch.

The section was earlier expected to open in August, but the corporation is awaiting railway certification for its rolling stock.
