Dr Anand Pandurangi
He was 72 .He is survived by his wife Anupama, a psychologist, and son Dr Aditya Pandurangi, a psychiatrist. His contributions earned him several honours, including the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award and an honorary doctorate from Karnatak University in 2018. Dharwad : Noted psychiatrist, community mental health pioneer and Karnataka Rajyotsava awardee Dr Anand Pandurangi passed away at a private hospital in Dharwad early Thursday. As news of his demise spread, members of the medical fraternity, political leaders, writers, social activists and scores of former patients gathered at his residence in Michigan Compound to pay their last respects. Former MLA Chandrakant Bellad, Murugha Mutt pontiff Mallikarjun Swami and several other dignitaries visited the family. Through mental health camps in towns and villages, he ensured treatment reached people unable to access urban healthcare facilities, making community psychiatry the defining feature of his career.
The last rites were performed at the Hosayallapur crematorium with full state honours on Thursday evening.
