Mangaluru : Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has revised autorickshaw fares, with the new rates coming into effect from Nov 1.

RTA withdrew its order issued on Aug 28, stating that it had failed to take into account the rate of Rs 20 fixed for every subsequent kilometre under the revised notification issued on Nov 23, 2022. The first 10 minutes of waiting will be free. Subsequently, a charge of Rs 5 will be levied for every 15 minutes or part thereof. The first 20kg will be carried free of charge, while Rs 5 will be charged for every additional 20kg or part thereof.

RTA said the fare revision was necessitated by the increase in the prices of CNG, LPG and diesel, as well as the rising cost of vehicle spare parts. Drivers and owners have also been directed to recalibrate and seal their fare meters according to the revised rates and collect the revised meter fare from passengers according to the distance travelled. A fresh order has now been issued. For luggage, one passenger must accompany the baggage. Between 10pm and 5am, autorickshaw drivers will be permitted to charge one-and-a-half times the prescribed fare. The revised rates were approved keeping in mind the welfare of autorickshaw drivers and the interests of the public. All autorickshaws must prominently display the fare chart approved by RTA. RTA has instructed police and transport officials to take legal action against violators. Download the TOI App.
