Kochi : The formal inauguration of Vaduthala railway overbridge (RoB) construction work will be held on Oct 7. The opening of two bridges is expected to ease traffic in these areas.

The Vaduthala RoB is being constructed by the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala (RBDCK) at a cost of Rs 18.8 crore provided by KIIFB. KIIFB also allotted Rs 67.87 crore for land acquisition. The total construction cost of the project is Rs 88.58 crore, including Rs 1.91 crore for statutory shifting. The bridge is 372.78m long and 10.15m wide. It includes a carriageway of 7.5m and a footpath of 1.5m on one side. The length of the span over the railway line is 43.45m. The length of the approach road is 181.25m on the Vaduthala side and 148.08m on the Pachalam side.

Once the RoB is opened, the traffic congestion experienced by the people of Vaduthala, Chittoor and Cheranalloor areas will be eliminated, travel convenience will be improved, and the risk of accidents will be significantly reduced, Vinod said. T J Vinod, MLA, informed that PWD minister P K Basheer will inaugurate the work of the bridge. The project will be helpful for the social and economic development of the region, he added.
