Dharwad : What initially appeared to be a straightforward suicide case has taken a dramatic turn, with the wife of a 36-year-old government employee alleging that he ended his life after facing relentless harassment linked to an alleged Rs 3.94 crore government job racket.
In a complaint filed with Dharwad Town police, his wife Laxmibai alleged that her husband was subjected to mental harassment and threats by several persons after aspirants who had paid money for promised government jobs began demanding refunds.
Revappa and his maternal uncle, Malappa Maragal, had allegedly collected around Rs 3.9 crore from job seekers on behalf of four persons identified as Sikandar Choudhary, Hasansab Ranjunagi, Dileepkumar Acharya and Kamappa Pujari, who had purportedly assured government jobs, according to the complaint. Police said a bag tied around Revappa’s waist contained a purported death note, 70 bank cheques, three notebooks and a letter addressed to the police. Dharwad Town police have registered a case under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched a detailed investigation.
A native of Kalarakoppa village in Gokak taluk of Belagavi district, Revappa is survived by his family.
