Nagpur: A 28-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly grooming an 11-year-old girl on social media to convert her religion, coercing her into marriage and uploading her video call recordings and obscene content on a fake profile in her name. As per the complaint of the 42-year-old woman from Jaripatka, her daughter, a Class 6 student, had been chatting with the accused on an Instagram ID, where she was being pushed into marriage and religion change. Police registered the offence under relevant provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure, Section 12 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and Section 67 of Information Technology Act.
Also, the accused uploaded video call recordings of chats with her daughter and posted religious content in her Instagram profile, which was opened without her consent, said police. The accused also contacted the girl from another ID, used obscene language, and sent vulgar reels, said sources. Police sources said the matter involves online targeting of a minor for conversion and forced marriage and is being handled with sensitivity under the POCSO framework.
The case was unearthed by the girl’s mother, who examined her social media activity and found recorded chats and her unauthorised profile. The precise sequence of messages is being verified from the digital trail. Authorities have urged parents to monitor children’s social media activity closely and report suspicious online activity.
